Reconstruction of 138 bridge expansion joints, painting of
structural steel at the expansion joints, masonry coating,
and repair of substructure concete and removal of the
existing bridge deck overlay.
The time frame for completion of the project was 3 weekends
and a 30 calendar day closure. 14 to 16 bridge crews were
used around the clock 24 hours 7 days per week in order to
complete the project on time.
Scheduling and communication on the project was critical for
completion. Outstanding effort from the employees on the
project was instrumental for the successful project.

The project consisted of the removal and replacement of the existing bridge deck. Cleaning and painting of the structural steel. Installing seismic lockup devices. New structural steel at various locations.
The project was to be completed in 14 construction phases while maintaining traffic with temporary traffic signals. Traffic was maintained with minimal interruptions to the traveling public during construction.Fluctuating water levels of the Wabash River made the scheduling of work activities and subcontractors critical to completion of the project.

The design of the existing structure required intricate form work to be performed by the onsite construction crew. The floor beams and columns were pre cast in advance prior the removal of the structure portions. The design and access to the structure restricted the portions of the structure to be rehabilitated at a time.
