US 231, SPENCER COUNTY, INDIANA

New US 231 between I-64 and the Ohio River in Spencer

County, Indiana. Beginning at SR 66 (Ohio River)

northbound 4.8 miles ending at a point 1.15 miles south

of SR 70.This project involved the construction of a new

dual-lane, partial access control highway that replaced a

two-lane narrow existing highway. Construction had to be

phased on the southbound then northbound sides to

maintain existing vehicle traffic and rail traffic into an

adjacent power plant.

Pavement design is 14.75" full depth HMA placed on a

line stabilized earth sub grade. The full depth pavement

design demonstrates the quality, appearance, and

rideability that can be achieved with HMA.
